Smoked Tofu Chinese Fondue

For festive dinners, try this smoked tofu Chinese fondue a flavorful, plant-based alternative that brings everyone together around the table.

Broth Ingredients

  • 5 cups (1.2 L) water

  • ¼ cup miso

  • 1 tbsp salted herbs 

  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)*

  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced

  • 1 small fresh red tomato, diced

  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed

  • A handful of fresh cilantro

  • A pinch of cayenne or hot sauce 

For Dipping

  • Baby potatoes

  • Mushrooms

  • Broccoli

  • Cauliflower

Preparation

  1. In a saucepan, combine all the broth ingredients.

  2. Mix well and simmer for about 20 minutes.

  3. Using a slotted spoon, remove the solid ingredients from the broth or strain through a fine sieve, then pour into a fondue pot.

* You can replace Worcestershire sauce with Bragg or tamari and a touch of maple syrup.
** Small cubes of smoked tofu are delicious dipped into the broth as a meat-free alternative.

Yields about 6 cups of broth.
